Rhoda Weeks-Brown
Rhoda is Founder/Chair of AEBCF and Founder/CEO of Cape Palmas Global Advisors LLC. These roles follow a multi-decade career at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) during which she made high-impact contributions to all aspects of the work of the IMF, including major policy and country reforms. She also served in several senior positions, including as General Counsel (Chief Legal Officer) and Director of the Legal Department, and Special Advisor to the IMF’s Managing Director. Rhoda was the first woman and first developing country national to serve as IMF General Counsel. Prior to the IMF, she worked for several years with a Big Law firm in the U.S.
After her own breast cancer diagnosis and a one-year period battling the disease, aided by state-of-the-art medications and surgical procedures in the U.S., Rhoda was interested in understanding how breast cancer was addressed in other countries, including Liberia, her birthplace. She discovered to her dismay that breast cancer was at that time still largely treated as a palliative disease in Liberia. This in turn strengthened her resolve to work to increase breast cancer awareness and access to breast cancer screening, treatment and care for women in Liberia and other under-resourced countries. AEBCF is her vehicle for carrying out that commitment.
Rhoda has a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A. in Economics (summa cum laude) from Howard University. She is a member of the Committee on International Monetary Law of the International Law Association, the Leadership Council of the World Justice Project, the Advisory Board of the Allard Prize and the Panel of Recognized International Market Experts in Finance. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Results for America and TalentNomics, Inc., and is a member of the District of Columbia, Massachusetts, New York and U.S. Supreme Court Bars.
